I am disappointed to have to write this review. When this place was "Yan Sushi" it was an incredible value. I had eaten there for years. But with the new ownership has come falling standards for the quality of their sushi product. First, the cuts of fish you get are a lot smaller than they used to be. Second, all the fish tasted dry and not at all fresh. What a disappointment, I used to LOVE this restaurant. Now I would advise you to stay away and visit one of the other sushi places in the area. If you must eat at Tomo I would suggest the bento box meal -- you get a TON of food for a very reasonable price.
Pros: great location, friendly staff, low prices...
Cons: dry fish that is not fresh, small cuts of fish...

Fantastic, that's the word that comes to mind. I recently moved to the area and was in the mood for sushi, but wasn't sure where to go. As I was driving up Westheimer I saw TOMO to my left and decided to turn in. SO GLAD I did! I've eaten sushi all over Houston - cheap and expensive - and this place was the best tasting and best prices since HIDO near Willowbrook Mall. I do miss my hibachi there, but I have definitely found not only a replacement for my sushi cravings, but BETTER sushi and tastier rolls! The "Happy Hour" is wonderful. I went during this time and had a roll, 6 pieces of sushi, and a small hot sake for only $9! I was very pleased and can't wait to go back with my fiance'. I want to try so many things on the menu so I'll be back frequently. I just found my new favorite sushi place! I'm so exicted!!
Pros: Very tasty, cute atmosphere, clean, friendly staff, great prices, and open until 2AM on weekends!!
Cons: None!!

I was very much a novice and uniformed at sushi and convinced myself it was a trendy phase that i would avoid. However eventually succumbed and went with a few of my 'experienced' friends to Tomo. I was instantly hooked. However there is a problem, if I want sushi I now cannot eat anywhere OTHER than Tomo. I have tried about 15 other sushi places in Houston, the expensive ones, the classy ones, the 'fusion' ones, the trendy ones and there is absolutely nothing that compares to tomo. The staff are more attentive and polite and helpful than anywhere else, the prices are more reasonable than anywhere else, the selection is terrific, the freshness is guaranteed and it is just sushi at its simpest and most unpretentious in Houston. Absolutely go - just know ahead of time you will find it hard to go anywhere else after you've tried there..
