Rice School (6-8) Reviews

My children all attended Rice from K through 8. The education they received while at Rice was exceptional. I attribute much of their success now due to the quality of education they received while at Rice. Education begins at home with involved parents who are willing to work with their children in order to assure their success. Hats off to the excellent Teachers, Staff and Adminstrators of The Rice School. Update...former students of Rice, Junior in College, Senior and Freshman (High School).

Teachers are not interested in quality but quantity. Yelling, intimidating is their way to teach discipline. Great arts program but horrible in technology and Spanish. Kids are not happy, just look at their faces. I'm a parent and I'm very disappointed.

I attended this school for middle school and it is overrated. The 'Rice' name makes it sound prestigious but really the school is lacking in many things. The biggest problem I had with the school was that the majority of the students lacked discipline. A number of the teachers were not well qualified to teach and did not instruct students well. There were numerous fights and even whole class violence when I was there. There were few extracurricular activities and there were only a handful of students who were actually really interested in learning. I would not recommend this school at all to anyone unless you have no other choice of schools.

The quality of the academic programs is subprime. The school touts itself as a magnet school for spanish and technology, yet I've had children there for four years who have hardly learned any spanish. Additionally, some of the teachers are entirely too harsh with the children. This school is entirely over-rated, and as another parent noted; the administration protects the rights of the faculty - at the expense of the child! The level of parental involvement is good however, and the school has the best fine arts program I've ever seen. Kudos to Ms. Gilmore, the fine arts instructor.

Facility and most of faculty are well above average. Student population is a major hindrance to learning, however. There is a prevailing culture of disrespect at the school and more time is spent disciplining than educating, of necessity. Very weak gifted and talented program. This is also not a racially balanced or racially normative school. Extracurriculars are unremarkable. Parent involvement is probably better than average. Great potential but the kid culture there is not success oriented and scholastic excellence is demeaned rather than supported by the majority of the kids.

I am very disapointed. The majority of the teachers and staff apparently beleive that yelling and intimidating their students is the way to discipline and gain respect. The staff is great at covering for each other and will never admit to any wrong doing. They have an interim principal. Maybe this will finally bring some change. I will way they have a few great teachers who inspire the children, but they are the exception.

I feel that the staff is very incompetent. The teachers are very inconsiderate as for as I have my education and you have to get yours. The principle and staff does not follow the school policy but are very harsh on their students. If anyone is looking for your child to be treated equally do not send your child here.
